A thrillingly immersive horror anthology around a campfire
Creative Direction by Rafael Pavon Produced by Future Lighthouse & Oculus Studios (2018)
Gather around the virtual campfire and face your darkest childhood fears with Robert Englund in “Campfire Creepers,” a groundbreaking VR horror anthology by Alexandre Aja that reimagines the classic campfire tale for the digital age.
Directed by horror maestro Alexandre Aja and produced in collaboration with Oculus Studios and Future Lighthouse, this live-action series pushes the boundaries of immersive storytelling and horror. Each episode invites viewers to join the fire circle at Camp Coyote, where a group of campers share spine-chilling stories that come to life in stunning virtual reality.
“Campfire Creepers” represents a significant leap forward in VR filmmaking. As creative director, I shaped the project from script to final delivery, working closely with the writers to harness VR’s unique storytelling potential. We explored innovative camera techniques, reimagined practical visual effects for the spherical frame, and guided actors to adapt to this new performance space.
The series blends nostalgic 80s horror aesthetics with cutting-edge technology, creating a visceral experience that both honours and reinvents the genre. Starring horror icon Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger!), “Campfire Creepers” not only pushes the technical limits of cinematic VR but also bridges the gap between traditional film audiences and the world of immersive entertainment.
